AUSTIN, Texas (Saturday, May 18, 2013) — The Austin Aztex (2-0-0) defense held strong and needed only one goal from defender Aaron Guillen to secure the 1-0 win over the Houston Dutch Lions (0-1-1) before a crowd of over 1200 fans Saturday evening at House Park.
The Aztex defense stole the show as the defenders were able to deflect pressure from the Dutch Lions attack throughout the game. At one point during the match, the Aztex had as many as eight players who played defense for their respective college teams to hold the lead.
A pair of defenders came through to deliver the lone goal of the game. Aztex midfielder Sito Seoane sent a corner into the penalty area for Westlake High graduate and Aztex defender Walker Hume, whose 6-foot-5-inch frame helped head the ball across goal to fellow defender Guillen, who headed the ball into the back of the net.
The home town squad calmly deflected any Dutch Lions attack.
The Aztex return to House Park to face USL PRO squad the Wilmington Hammerheads in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. The winner of Tuesday’s match will travel to face MLS side the Portland Timbers in the Third Round.
