Aggies Oust SFA 1-0, Move on in NCAA Tourney

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Annie Kunz scored the game’s lone goal and the Texas A&M defense logged its 14th shutout of the season as the No. 15 Aggies defeated Stephen F. Austin, 1-0, in NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship first round action at Ellis Field on Friday evening.

With the win, Texas A&M improved to 18-4-1 overall and the Aggies will advance to the second round to play the winner of Saturday’s match between Oakland and Ohio State. The second round game will be played next Friday in Tallahassee, Fla.

SFA’s best season in program history came to a close with a 17-4-0 mark. The 17 wins are a program best.

AUSTIN, Texas – A goal from Texas Tech’s Dawn Ward in the 58th minute lifted the Red Raiders to a 1-0 victory over Texas on Friday evening inside Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. Ward took a deflected shot from freshman Janine Beckie and pushed a ball past Texas freshman goalkeeper Abby Smith, who finished the contest with a career-high eight saves.

The loss was Texas’ (6-7-1, 3-1-0 Big 12) first since a 1-0 setback at Utah on Sept. 8 and snapped a five-game unbeaten streak. The goal by Ward was also the first allowed by the Longhorns in 353:24, since Denver’s Kristen Hamilton scored at 84:13 to tie the match at 3-3 on Sept. 16

Lady Techsters outlast UTSA in overtime, 1-0

SAN ANTONIO- UTSA outshot Louisiana Tech 20-8, but Laura LeFevour’s goal in the 97th minute gave the visiting Lady Techsters a 1-0 win over UTSA on Sunday afternoon at the Rec Sports Complex.

Despite playing with 10 on the pitch for the final 41 minutes, the Louisiana Tech improved to 11-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Roadrunners fell to 2-10-2 and 1-1-2 in league action.

UTSA tops San Jose State for first Western Athletic Conference win, 2-1

SAN JOSE, Calif. – UTSA jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held off San Jose State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Spartans Stadium for its first win in Western Athletic Conference action.

The victory is the first for the Roadrunners (2-8-2, 1-1-2 WAC) since a 2-1 triumph over Eastern Michigan on Aug. 31 and is the squad’s first road win of the campaign. Meanwhile, the Spartans fell to 3-9-1 on the season and 1-3 in WAC play.

A&M Blanks Miss. State; Leads SEC West

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies scored a pair of goals early in the match and hydroplaned to a 2-0 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on a rain saturated pitch at MSU Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.

Texas A&M improved to 11-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in SEC play. With a loss by the Missouri Tigers (1-0 vs. Tennessee) on Sunday, Texas A&M became the last unbeaten team in league play. The Aggies own a seven-point lead over Auburn in the SEC Western Division standings and a one-point lead over Florida and Missouri in the overall SEC standings.
