Summary/Story: Vista Ridge resumed non-district play laden with injuries Wednesday night against a heavily favored St. Stephens Academy squad.  In the opening minutes the Vista Ridge back line was challenged numerous times whereby St. Stephens was moving the ball almost at will.

Vista’s mid-field then met the challenge and stepped up their play with a strong defensive effort led by Vista holding mid-fielder Maddie Hoskins and by center back Brook Owen.

Vista took an early lead at the 19 minute mark via a breakaway down the left flank by freshman winger Erynn Johns who found the junior Vista striker McKenzie Oliver wide open on the back post to take a 1-0 lead.  St. Stephens immediately stepped up their passing attack and countered with the equalizing goal minutes later via a well-placed shot by St. Stephens’ striker Arianna Owens with Quinn Murphy assisting, tying it at 1-1.

St. Stephens challenged the Ranger goal consistently throughout the second half only to be denied by the senior Vista Ridge Keeper time after time.  Vista rallied a counter attack mid-way through the second half when a thru-ball from Johns resulted in an Oliver one on one with the St Stephens keeper who calmly scored a second time to seal the 2-1 win.  St Stephens mounted several late challenges which were dispatched handily by the Vista defense.

Standouts for St. Stephens included strong play from Quinn Murphy, Erin Mikaska and Arianna Owens.  Vista Ridge heads into district play boasting 7-3-1 record.

Round Rock downed Cedar Park 6-2 last week and came into Tuesday night's
contest as the team to beat for inter-district play. As they were the
home team they made it a point to leave the Cedar Park (Saturday game)
score of 6-2 up on the scoreboard for warm-ups.

In the early minutes it appeared as if Round Rock was the team to beat
with several early challenges on the Ranger goal. The Vista backline
settled down and then commanded the night handily.

At the 25 minute mark Freshman defender Tiffany..... made a backline
overlap challenge and topped the Round Rock Goalie to take a 1-0 lead.
Vista went into half time 2-0 by way of another Vista goal provided
by.....

In the second half the Vista backline continued to dominate play with
few challenges on goal, which provided opportunities for the front
line to advance on the Round Rock goal almost at will. Vista went up
3-0 off a redirected corner which found Freshman winger Erynn Johns on
the back post for a header goal. Vista then sent their game into high
gear and added two late goals on a breakaway from Johns and well a
placed distance shot from .....

Vista Ridge Defenders Sophie Taylor and Brooke.....were key in posting
the shutout. While Katerine Fannous and Samantha Mayock were
standouts for Round Rock.

Play resumes today for Round Rock vs Vandegrift and Vista Ridge vs
Westlake.
