San Antonio Scorpions Set to Open Toyota Field.

The San Antonio Scorpions will kick off their 2013 NASL home schedule in their new soccer specific stadium, Toyota Field this Saturday.  With a capacity of 8000, expandable to 18,000, the stadium was built with private money and offers a dedicated revenue stream for the club.

In the home opener, the Scorpions will face the Tampa Bay Rowdies.  San Antonio opened the season with a scoreless draw at Minnesota.  Tampa Bay opened with a scoreless draw against the Carolina Railhawks.  The NASL is a split off from the old USL A League, and is composed of seven teams.  It is considered to be the level below MLS.  For 2013, the NASL has adopted a split spring/fall season, with the New York Cosmos due to join the league for the fall season.

The 2013 Scorpions look to reclaim their regular season league title, but will do so without 20 goal scoring leader Pablo Campos.  The Brazilian striker signed with Minnesota for 2013.  New acquisitions include former LA Galaxy midfielder Bryan Jordan.  Returning players include 39 year old former Mexican national teamer Javier Saavedra.  The Scorpions are led by coach Tim Hankinson, returning for his second season in charge.
